Headquartered in Iowa's capitol city, DesMoiNTRAK members reside all over central Iowa. The club
meets the first Thursday of every month at College Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines. Members gather
to share in N-scale model railroading, the model railroading hobby, and often prototype railfanning.
There is no permanent layout, which is part of the NTRAK concept that
drives DesMoiNTRAK. With flexibility in size and the available modules, a layout can set up just about anywhere.
There are several opportunities to set up a layout around central Iowa. DesMoiNTRAK has been a regular part
of Pufferbilly Days in Boone, Railroad Heritage Day in Tama, and Annual Meets for NMRA divisions (Kate Shelly and
Great Midwestern). Parts of the module inventory have traveled to Kansas City, Topeka, Omaha, and St. Paul for
more national oriented events.Part of the NTRAK concept holds that, through standardization, a DesMoiNTRAK module should be able to
connect just about anywhere in an NTRAK layout with any other NTRAK module from around the world. A
layout can be as large or small as one desires, depending on the space available and the modules arriving.
We have had layouts as small as three modules and participated in national NTRAK layouts that were 100+ modules in size.
